What is the best way to store soy sauce?

How do you store your soy sauce in the kitchen? I tell you the tip for how to store soy sauce so that the best taste lasts. Soy sauce doesn’t rot. But it gradually loses flavor after opening the bottle.

Your fridge is the best place

There are 3 factors you have to take care of to keep your soy sauce tasty.

  • Air
  • Light
  • Temperature

After opening the bottle, soy sauce starts oxidizing by touching air. And it becomes even quicker with light and under high temperature. So keep it in the fridge.

You never can stop oxidization

On above photo you can see same soy sauce but with different color. After 60 days from opening the bottle the color became darker and it lost its rich flavor. So I prefer to get a smaller bottle in order to keep the good flavor of the soy sauce for delicate foods such as sushi or sashimi.

Lasting freshness by a special bottle

If you are lucky, you can find a soy sauce in the special package (photo above). It has a special valve function in the package to keep the air allways out. So you can enjoy rich flavor longer.
